Bodegas Navajas was founded in the small village of Navarette in the Rioja Alta in 1918. It is still owned and run by the Navajas family today, the current custodians being Mercedes (Merche) Navajas and her brother. Known for making Joven, Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines of exceptional quality and value for money, they decided to celebrate their 100th Anniversary by producing a super-premium red wine from the 2015 vintage, bottled in 2018 and named after Merche’s father, Antonio Navajas.
90% Tempranillo and 10% Graciano from 30+ year old estate vineyards in La Rioja Alta around Navarrete. 100% destemmed, temperature controlled fermentation and cold maceration before being transferred for 24 months ageing in mixed (American staves and French heads) Bordelaise oak barrels. After bottling, a further 2 years resting in the Navajas cellars before release. This very special and exclusive wine was awarded a Grand Gold medal at the 2023 Concours Mondial Bruxelles.
